PANDORA: MYTHIC MISADVENTURES
by
Carolyn Hennesy
BOOK ONE
- Pandora: Mythic Misadventures
is a series of seven linked fantasy adventure novels for the
8 to 13 year age group. Beginning with the unique setting of
Ancient Greece and its Gods, Pandora and her friends must travel
across the “known” world
to recover the contents of the box she inadvertently opened:
the famous Pandora’s Box.
In PANDORA GETS JEALOUS, Zeus has given Prometheus a box containing
the seven great evils (and a few lesser ones) that could plague
mankind. He is to guard this sealed box as further punishment
for his theft of fire. His daughter, Pandora (Pandy) disobediently
takes the box to school for a project. She is pressured into
allowing the popular girls to “just look at the box” and
evil gets loose. Zeus threatens punishment, but his wife, Hera,
has other plans. She hates Pandora for her own petty reasons
so this is an opportunity to have some fun tormenting Pandy.
Hera cunningly persuades Zeus to send Pandy on a mission instead:
capture all the evils and return them to the box…in
six month’s time or else! Hera gives Pandy a map showing
where each evil plague has landed, but she secretly plans to
make the task extremely difficult, even deadly. The other gods,
in a secret meeting, decide to help Pandy as much as possible;
each will help her capture whatever evil they personally put
into the box. Saying goodbye to her two best friends, Alcie
and Iole, Pandy leaves, taking only a few necessary things
and her dog, Dido. But her friends refuse to be left behind.
Along the way they meet the gods Athena and Hephaestus, who
give them enchanted objects, including a golden net, which
aid in their search. In Delphi, they sneak in to the famous
Temple of the Apollo, are attacked by harpies and put into
mortal danger. They manage to capture their first evil, JEALOUSY,
but only after Pandy discovers powers she never knew she had.
The next stop on the map is Alexandria, Egypt where they are
to capture VANITY. But Hera is watching their every move and
has a few nasty surprises up her sleeve.

- "Pandora's character
brings into the world of fantasy a fun twist on the Greek
myths and the Box of Evils. Excitement, adventure, and fun
--- all
in one package in the Pandora Series! Fast flowing and different,
it pulls you into the story, and you don't want it to let
go. Set in the world of a Greek teenager and her friends,
who must re-collect all the Evils, this book will appeal
to young adults for its fresh take and its amazing author.
A fantastic read.”
